The High Atlas, the greatest mountain range of North Africa, is perhaps the most beautiful and intriguing part of Morocco. It has retained a remoteness which until recent decades was virtually complete, and contains villages where the way of life has changed little for centuries.

A tough trek to the High and Central Atlas, with an option to climb North Africa's two highest peaks.

At 4,167m, Mount Toubkal (4167m) is the highest mountain in North Africa. The hike to the summit is challenging, but it requires no mountaineering experience and the panoramic view from he summit makes the hard work worthwhile.
With the start of the trek just a couple of hours drive from Marrakech, you can reach the summit and back within a week and still have time to explore Morocco’s most captivating city, Marrakech.
 

Day 1: Transfer from the airport to the hotel in Marrakech.

 
Day 2: After breakfast drive to the start point of our trek in the beautiful Ait Bou Guemez Valley. We spend the night in a local gite.
 
Day 3: Trek through valley and ascend the Arous River gorge. We pass through the village of Ayt Sayd and continue to the high grazing area of Azib Ikkis. We spend the night in tents (2350m).
 
Day 4: Cross a series of passes, the Tizi n-Oumskiyk (2909m.) and Tizi n-Tarkeddit (3250m) before dropping down to a pasture below Jebel Mgoun. Camp (2900m).
 
Day 5: Day 5. Early start for those ascending Jebel Mgoun (4069m. / 13,350ft.). The ridge to Mgoun is breathtaking and the summit affords splendid view towards the Sahara. Return to camp.
 
Day 6: At the western end of the plateau, we climb over a pass (3216m) and descend into the Tessaout Valley. We camp at Tasgarnalte Village (2325m).
 
Day 7: We walk beside the river passing several villages including the small nomadic settlement of Azib n'Ikkis and Ichbbakane to reach our overnight halt in the village of Ait Ali Nitto. We spend the night in a local gite.
 
Day 8: Leaving the Tessaout Valley we head south to the impressively located village of Megdaz. (2000m). We cross the Tizi Awrghiz (2450m). to reach Tagoukht (2020m). We spend the night again in tents.
 
Day 9: Cross the Tizi n'Fredoute (2800m) and the Tizi n-Tghaghayt (2838m) to reach the spectacularly located Lake Tamda. We spend the night in tents.
 
Day 10: Optional ascent of Jebel Anghomar, then follow the Ounila Stream down to Tighza (1980m). We spend the night in a local gite.
 
Day 11: Trek through groves of walnut and almond, and cross a small plateua before descending to village of Telouat (1900m) and adjacent Kasbah of the El Glaoui family. We camp near the Kasbah.
 
Day 12: Cross the Tizi N'Telouat (2567m), a major pass through the High Atlas, and descend to Titoula village (1950m). We spend the night in tents.
 
Day 13: Climb across a small pass to Taddert and cross the main Marrakech - Quarzazarte Road. We enter the gorge of the Afra Valley and continue to our riverside camp.
 
Day 14: Trek up onto the high pasture of the Yagour Plateau, through sparse forest of evergreen oak. Good views up valley of Bou Oughiwl and Aghoujdid. Camp (2300m).
 
Day 15: Traverse to an excellent viewpoint of the High Atlas before descending into the Ourika Valley. Trek to Setti Fadma and continue upstream to Agadir n'Aït Boulmane (1400m). We spend the night in tents.
 
Day 16: We climb through a gorge on a spectacular balcony path and pass through three Berber villages before reaching Timicha (2050m). We spend the night in tents.
 
Day 17: Cross the Tizi n-Tacheddirt (3172m) into the Imenane Valley. Lunch at the pass before descending to Tacheddirt (2250m). We spend the night in tents.
 
Day 18: Trek across the Tizi n-Tamatert (2279m) and descend to Ait Souka. After lunch, ascend the Mizan Valley to Sidi Chamharouch and beyond to a camp at the falls of Immouzer .
 
Day 19: Early start for those wanting to climb Jebel Toubkal (4167m), North Africa's highest peak. Descend to our camp near the Toubkal refuge.
 
Day 20: Walking down the Mizan valley we pass through Sidi Chamharouch and Aroumd to reach Imlil village(1740m ). Transfer to the hotel in Marrakech.
 
Day 21: Transfer to the airport and departure from Marrakech
